                      Short essay on the back  - What is the moral of this
                         story?  Can you relate to it?  Give an example.

    Product presentations- begin this Thursday - bring materials

       packaging
       -have one advertising technique present in your plan
       **note** small containers will need to design
             an accompanying poster with information
       Bring containers to class on Monday for a
          work session.

Social Studies:

    CW- final day for computing research and printing
    HW- continue to finalize your 25 events and graphics- due Monday
             see the requirement H.O.
    Monday-  bring all your work to class to assemble the timeline
       (my room will be open at 8:15 am for printing)

       -if approved start writing the text for your ad and packaging
       -plan your marketing based on advertising techniques
        -bring a container/box to class on Friday for your product

    CW- skim through magazines
       -choose three favorite ads - discuss why
       -generate ideas on successful ads/products
       -Vocabulary:  stereotypes, bias, subliminal suggestions

    HW- work on writing/developing your product
       bring all work to class on Friday

Social Studies:

    Continue work on the timeline
    Friday is our last class day to work on this project
    Bring all printed material to class on Monday  (10-22)
    HW-  work on the required events for the timeline

    Video - "The Monkey Paw"
       discuss comparisons of the literature and film version
       compare cultural views on:  luck, fate, karma, etc.
       list symbolic items of good luck & bad luck
       what about our society today? 

    Introduce the the company - Monkey Paw, Inc.
       H.O. -  requirements for your new product
       List - advertising techniques  (how do you plan
                on marketing your product?)
    HW-  write out a basic plan-
          what is your product?  purpose?  etc..
          see the handout -
          come with preliminary plans for approval tomorrow

Social Studies:

   
    Continue to work on the research and timeline
    Print a few pages for assessment - make adjustments
    you should have completed 10-12 events by today

    HW - continue to complete your timeline events.
       bring to class/email to me/print at home/etc.

    Finish the story "The Monkey Paw"
       -discuss the outcome  (fate, luck, moral, etc.)
       -Assignment:  design a product that has special powers
          design the package and ad to sell the product
          list its special powers, ingredients, price, etc..
          write a disclaimer
       *due this Friday  (10-19)
       HW- bring your notes to class tomorrow for approval

Social Studies:

    Extra Credit work - due today
   
    CW/HW- continue on American Revolution timeline
       see list of requirements
    -I'll present a couple of events in class today
